For a couple generations of Chicagoans–and a lot of tourists–the name Colleen Moore is synonymous with the dollhouse to end all dollhouses, the fabulous fairy castle that’s been on display at the Museum of Science and Industry since 1949. Moore built her half-million-dollar obsession with help from the pros she met (and the cash she made) during her career as a film star. Tonight’s installment of the Silent Summer 2003 Film Festival offers a chance to see her at work: in Twinkletoes, made in 1926, Moore plays a ballerina stuck in a squalid theater and in love with a married boxer. Mark Noller will provide live accompaniment on the 1,241-pipe organ in the Copernicus Center’s Gateway Theatre, formerly the flagship movie palace of the Balaban & Katz chain. It starts at 8 at 5216 W. Lawrence in Chicago. Tickets are $10; call 773-205-7372.
