Previously produced by the Aardvark theater company, this third annual festival of women’s theater has been taken over by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs in conjunction with Prop Thtr. Running through May 10, the festival features artists in the fields of theater, performance, poetry, dance, and music; scheduled participants include Karen Finley, Stephanie Shaw, Margi Cole, Laura McKenzie, Jessica Thebus, Susan Nussbaum, Tekki Lomnicki, Nana Shineflug, Teatro Luna, and Babes With Blades. Three different programs run at the Storefront Theater in the Gallery 37 Center for the Arts, 66 E. Randolph; tickets cost $12 for each program or $30 for all three. The band Apartment opens and closes the show and backs up all the evening’s performers in the group musical number “She’s the One.” The program also features monologuist Stephanie Shaw in her “meta-theatrical” piece Estrus Estranged; M.K. Victorson and Lotti Phariss competing for the title of “Miss Lake Luther”; Kat’ Taylor singing “Song of the Self-help Junkie” and “Making Love Alone”; Marilyn Campbell and Laurie Larson reciting poetry by Susan Hahn and Anne Sexton; the stage-combat ensemble Babes With Blades; We Are Our Mothers’ Daughters, a short play written by Sean Graney and directed by Ann Filmer; and Teatro Luna in Piece of Ass, a play about Jennifer Lopez.
