As a Loyola faculty member, I would like to thank you for your coverage of the current unrest at Loyola [January 7]. I found your coverage to be more fair and balanced than that of the Chicago Tribune. I am surprised, however, that Loyola 2000 is still being portrayed as the root of the problem. In fact, many faculty feel that the current situation is the result of six and a half years of poor management. Many of us have had doubts about the administration’s competence for a long time, and Loyola 2000 has confirmed our worst fears. Hence Loyola 2000 is not, ultimately, the “root” of our distress but the nail in the coffin of our trust in the administration. The bottom line, however, is that we faculty at Loyola remain committed to our students and to the educational process, and Loyola remains a good place to get a great education.
